28 weeks. third trimester. lots of progress.

happy labor day to all. LABOR day. this word will have a whole new meaning come november - i'm sure of that. only 12 more weeks to get ready for THE DAY. we're 28 weeks yesterday. to prepare for THE DAY, i've been catching up on my bradley method readings and have been learning all sorts of things i didn't know before - some which i'm not sure i wanted to know, but better prepared, right?

this weekend, was like just about every other weekend - garrett and my parents working on the basement while i search for everything perfect for the baby. don't get me wrong - i'd love to help in the basement, but bending over, carrying heavy objects and painting walls are just out of my reach nowadays. oh, well, because i find looking for furniture, window treatments and decor to be all the more fun. hey, it's a challenge too!

in my last post, i was still loving the idea of chevron everywhere. well, FINALLY i found a chevron baby bumper!! at last!! so exciting. etsy and i have a love/hate relationship. i love everything on the website, but when i'm looking for something specific, i can NEVER seem to narrow down all of the 'options' to lead me to the right section of the online store. i came across a blog - http://www.neverhomemaker.com -  that led me to another blog - which, of course, now i cannot locate (something like 'mod mom chic') that led me to an etsy website that has CHEVRON baby bumpers! what a scavenger hunt. so, i've ordered the bumper and have asked her to make a matching rocking char cushion. my mom has so generously given us her old wooden rocking chair that will fit perfectly in baby k's room. i even managed to find the perfect stuffed owl for the crib. and a clock!

LOVE IT.

We've also been on the lookout for a dresser/changing table. i'm not a huge fan of changing tables. i think they are oddly shaped, don't fit in a designed room very well and serve, well not much of a purpose. after all, you can change a baby's diaper just about anywhere. so, a dresser, it is! a sturdy dresser that can accommodate for a changing table as well. 2 for 1. i like it. problem - dressers don't come cheap - or at least the dressers i would prefer do not come cheap. I found THE ONE. well, so i thought. the price was affordable and the look was exactly what i was going for.

ikea dresser - $179 and perfect, so i thought
After discovering that it wasn't real wood and it could, well fit it's price tag, by looking 'cheap', i decided to look just a little longer. My mom and i ventured down the block to the good ole' Park City antique store. i usually don't find much, but today i found just want I needed. one problem. the picture of the dresser is on my mom's camera - but, i will definitely post a picture soon. it's JUST like the picture above, except a blonde wood. So, we're going to paint it - i haven't decided what color yet - and make it brand new! all for $50. not bad, eh?

My dad got baby k's room all painted this weekend, too! three walls a very light seafoam green/teal color and one wall grey and white stripes - my favorite.  i think it'll be perfect for a boy or girl and the contemporary/ but retro feel i'm going for. here are a few of our painting pictures!

the green room goes

first step: paint three walls seafoam green/teal

second step: paint one wall grey, and apply guide lines with tape

roll on the white!

ta-da! i'm in love with the stripes!

So, I'm not sure if it's just coincidental that it happens to be Labor Day and i got so many things done for baby k, or not, but either way, i'm happy. fat and happy and so excited there are only 12 short weeks before we meet our beloved child!

happy birthday to my mama.

happy birthday mama!

i feel like once all of your big milestone birthdays have passed- 16: get to drive, 18: legal, 21: really legal - birthdays just become birthdays. but, any day that i can celebrate one of the most important people in my life, calls for a celebration. my mom, my best friend, one of a few people in the world i can count on no matter what, deserves to be celebrated. she is the most unselfish person i can think of and is always there for her family. she finds us kids just as important as she did when we were little and needed her attention every second of the day. she still wants to be in our lives and we more than welcome that because of her genuine heart and caring soul. she always thinks of others before herself and knows that having family and love outweighs money and nice things anytime. so happy birthday mom. i hope you know how much we love you and i hope all of your wishes come true. all i want, is to be a mother to baby K just as you are to me. baby K is so excited to meet Grandma Julie!

the 3 best years.

uno, dos, tres.

g and i 'celebrated', or rather just relaxed on our 3 year anniversary this past week. since it's been almost 9 years total that we've been together, the number 3 almost seems funny to me. Didn't we celebrate 3 years, like 6 years ago? Life with g is good. we are so happy right now with where our lives are taking us. we are blessed to have jobs, own a house, have the best dog child ever, and a baby on the way! we're looking forward to the next few months with just the two (3 with hadley) of us, before baby K arrives. We can't wait for our family to grow, and can only imagine how great life will be with baby K here!

So, happy 3 years g baby, and many, many more to come!

father's day 2011

This year we celebrated father's day with a family bbq. Garrett's dad, my dad and Garrett (my baby's dadddy) were able to all be in the same place for the day. We enjoyed homemade food, cold drinks and a few games of washers. Thank you dad, for always being there and thank you Garrett for already being a great dad to baby K.

baby k's photoshoot

What an awesome experience. Although, we've had several sonograms before, today we were able to see baby k in lots of action and were able to recognize all ten toes and fingers! We have a healthy baby! I would definitely say the worst part of the sonogram is having to drink so much water and not being able to go to the restroom beforehand. Once the sonogram began taking place, I didn't eve think about having to go to the restroom. We are right on track for our November 19 due date. We will go back to the doctor in 2 weeks for our monthly appointment. Halfway there and we CAN'T WAIT!!

my bff.

Not only is this an exciting time for Garrett and I, but it's also a very exciting time for my bff, Stacey. Two weeks prior to Garrett and I finding out that we were expecting, Stacey found out that she and her husband Dustin would be having baby #2! I literally cannot imagine my life without my bff. She is one of the most kind-hearted people I know and trust. She always looks for the good in people and is a person that can turn my day around with a lunch date and a good talk. This whole experience (pregnancy) has been a very fun adventure being able to share it with my bff. Stacey just found out she will be having baby boy #2! So, now as we wait until 'the day' to find out what we are having, Stacey and I joke about whether our children will date or become best friends just like us. Thank you, Stacey, for being the BEST bff in the whole world. I love you!!!

the doctor's office has never been so fun!

Yes. I'm one who hates going to the doctor. It might be the amount of money they take from you after you wait 30 minutes after your appointment was supposed to take place, or the fact that they usually spend 5 minutes diagnosing your 'cold'. Anyways, baby appointments are different. I LOVE them. It's so fun to hear the heartbeat and to listen to the doctor tell you how healthy and wonderful your baby is. I just, LOVE it. This week the baby's heartbeat was 158 bpm and the doctor said we have a VERY active baby! Thank goodness there was reasoning for not being able to find the heartbeat for what seemed like an eternity. He said the baby was just moving all around up, down and side to side. We'll go back to the doctor's office in two weeks for our sonogram! Although we've seen the baby three different times now, we'll now be able to see the baby at a much larger size and see his/her arm, legs and so much more! We'll also be sure to tell the nurse we do NOT want to find out the sex of the baby. I hope she/he listens!

Baby K is on the way!

That's right. a little more than 3 months down. and hopefully a little less than 6 months to go! Garrett and I couldn't be happier. We are expecting our first child (although Hadley could definitely be considered a child) this coming November. This is a dream come true for both of us as we have always wanted a family together. We found out on St. Patrick's day that we were expecting - so St. Patrick's day definitely has a new meaning for us, other than just 'the green beer day". We've had four doctor's appointments now, and each time we feel so blessed. After three different doctor's we've finally decided on THE ONE. Relief. We are tentatively due on November 27, but have been told that our due date will move to November 19. The sooner the better. I can't wait to meet Baby K! We've decided not to find out the gender of the baby, so that's definitely keeping us on our toes! I think it will be one of the best surprises ever! So, for now, you can cast your prediction on the blog.. Boy or Girl? Only time will tell! This also means the basement has a 'due date'. So, this fall should be an exciting time around the Konen household! For now, while Garrett works on the basement, I've been spending my time designing the baby room and reading baby name books (if you can call that reading). I'm obsessed with names, so this will be a task for sure. So, for now enjoy the baby 'bump' pictures below! We're growing, and we LOVE it! We are so blessed.

This is the cake we had made when we told our parents. Garrett's Dad, his wife Kathy, My Mom, Dad and brother all were planning to have a small watch party for the KU game that night. We surprised them with a KU cake, a baby Jay cake that is! And, yes, the picture is sideways.
